One of the best meals we had in Kauai! The proprietor was awesome and very friendly. She recommended the pork tacos with Cilantro lime sauce and it was delicious. Our party also had the classic tacos and they were great too. Strongly recommend the homemade tortillas for the tacos. We went back later in the week and it was just as good the second time. Thank you Island Taco! We will definitely be back the next time we visit Waimea! *chef's kiss*

Papaya seed shrimp taco on gluten-free corn tortillas! Super tasty slaw w/chips & yummy beans. Certainly a great taco. Hubby had the ahi tuna wasabi tacos. We both opted for the corn tortillas vs homemade flour only because you get 2 tacos. Service was great & oh so sweet. Definitely worth the stop in Waimea.

I wasn't very hungry, but if I had been, I would have tried their fish and wasabi burrito--it sounded intriguing. My husband was craving beef, so he went for it, and he said it was the most unique burrito he's ever had. He enjoyed it! I sampled the rice, beans, and red sauce, which were good. We especially liked their spicy sauce--it added a great kick. The place itself was fine, though I found it a bit inconvenient that the restroom was located in the neighboring shop. It made me feel like I had to buy something from there just to use it, which was uncomfortable.

One of our favorite meals while on vacation. We came hungry after exploring Waimea Canyon. The woman at the cashier did it all, she was friendly, gave good recommendations, all while delivering all the dishes to everyone's table. We loved both the wasabi ahi tuna taco and Cajun shrimp taco. The wasabi was unique, in that it wasn't spicy, and even my toddler liked it. You can tell everything is homemade, the chips that came with the tacos were the best! We can't wait to come back next time we're in Kauai!

Island Taco was the best food I had while we were visiting Kauai. I tried their classic taco with everything in them. It was made fresh and stuffed generously even with rice. It was served with fresh salsa and corn tortilla chips. The other plate was seared ahi and served with flour tortilla. I liked flour tortilla better. This place is takeout but there's some tables outside. We were lucky that we were able to order some food. They were having technical issue so they weren't taking anymore orders and turning away customers during lunch time.

The tacos here are worth driving to the edge of the island for and might possibly be the best tacos on Kauai. We got 2 different types, the cajun and the cilantro lime. The flavors of each were very different but both excellent. Make sure to get a side of their tartar sauce. It broke da mouth! The staff are friendly and approachable. They have really cute Christmas decor if you go in December. There are funny jokes on the wall. Love this casual spot!

We stopped at Island Taco immediately after an exciting morning visiting Waimea Canyon. The location is perfect for a post or pre Waimea Canyon meal (depending on when you go up there), but it's also a great option any time you might be in the area. Island Taco is a small, unassuming building with a small number of tables outside. Some of completely covered in shade from the building and some are picnic tables with umbrellas. We were there in November and it was still absolutely sweltering for us sitting outside even under the shade, but I guess that means you will just eat quickly and then the table will be available for the next group :) We arrived at the peak of lunchtime and there was quite a line to order food, but once we ordered our food it was prepared fairly quickly, so that's good. Even though I was enticed by the fish options, I decided to try the steak burrito instead. It's cajun spiced and has jalapeno creme. It was delicious! The steak was really tender and all of the flavors were fantastic. In the end, I had no regrets in getting one of the less Hawaiian options on the menu. The burritos are served with rice and beans on the side, while the tacos come with chips and salsa. Realistically speaking, the portions aren't that big and the prices are fairly typical Hawaii prices (they are much higher than you'd see for something similar on the mainland). All in all, we enjoyed our lunch here and still had room to get some shave ice immediately after! We would definitely eat here again next time we visit Waimea Canyon.
